The 11th Kobayashi Foundation Award Guidelines for Applicants

The Kobayashi Foundation Award is presented to outstanding researchers and medical teams that have made significant contributions to oncology and cancer chemotherapy in Asian countries and territories outside Japan.

Please find two different application guidelines and forms. Part 1 is for the researchers who have shown outstanding achievements and performances in research and development in the field of oncology and cancer chemotherapy. Part 2 is for the medical teams composed of healthcare professionals, who contribute to the development of medical care and society to improve the outcome of anticancer treatment in their own country and/or territory. Clinical trials are ineligible for the application.

Part 1：Award for Researchers

Objective

The Kobayashi Foundation Award will be given to researchers who have conducted distinguished research and made significant contributions to the advancement of oncology and cancer chemotherapy in their own country and/or territory, except Japan.

Eligibility

Applicants must be researchers who are nationals of an Asian country or territory other than Japan and are affiliated with an institute, hospital, nonprofit organization, or university in their home country or territory.

Past award winners are not eligible to apply, regardless of the subject matter of their prior application or the number of years since the award was granted.

Application Period

From November 2nd, 2026, to January 8th, 2027, 5:00 PM JST

Selection Process

One or two award winners will be selected by the Selection Committee, which consists of experts in oncology and cancer chemotherapy appointed by the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research.

Award

Each award winner will receive a prize of JPY 2,000,000.

Result Announcement

The results will be announced on the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research website. Applicants will also be notified individually.

Award Ceremony

The award winners will be invited to Japan to receive their awards and deliver an award lecture at the award ceremony.

Part2：Award for the medical teams composed of healthcare professionals

Objective

The Kobayashi Foundation Award will be given to one or two medical teams composed of healthcare professionals (e.g. medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical educators, etc.) who have made remarkable contributions and achieved significant advancements in oncology and cancer chemotherapy in their own countries and/or territories.

Eligibility

Applicants must be teams composed of healthcare professionals engaged in the field of oncology and cancer chemotherapy.
Teams whose representative members are nationals of lower-middle-income countries (according to the World Bank income classification) will be given priority.
The team representative must belong to an institute, hospital, nonprofit organization, or university in his or her own country.
Clinical trials are ineligible for the application. Past award winners are not eligible to apply, regardless of the subject matter of their prior application or the number of years since the award was granted.
