Grant for Activities to Improve Cancer Treatment in Emerging Asian Countries
Guidelines for Applicants

Objective

In the emerging Asian countries, the number of doctors and medical staff specializing in cancer treatment as well as the type of availability anticancer drugs are limited. However, in those countries, the elderly population is expected to increase along with the overall population in the future. There is a growing need for doctors and medical staff specializing in cancer treatment, and at the same time, there is also need to improve their capabilities. Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research will provide grants to organizations, institute, hospital and facilities in Asian countries to improve the survival and outcome of anticancer drug treatment in those countries, as well as building a collaboration framework for cancer treatment between Asian countries and Japan.

Summary of applications

Eligible applicants
Nonprofit organizations and institutions that conduct activities to spread cancer treatment and improve outcomes in Asian countries. Individual organizations and institutions can make multiple applications.
Kingdom of Cambodia, Kingdom of Thailand, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Republic of Indonesia, Republic of the Philippines and Socialist Republic of Viet Nam are given priority, but other regions may also apply

Subject to activities
The following activities will lead to the spread and development of cancer treatment, especially anti-cancer drug treatment.
• Spread of medical care of cancer treatment, mainly anti-cancer drug therapy
• Development of frameworks for multi-national clinical trials
• Create guidelines
• Organize an international symposium related to the above
• Other
Multiple years of activities are also acceptable. Grant for multiple-year activities will be paid once in the first grant year.

Application conditions
• The project can be implemented during the 2025 fiscal year (ending March 31, 2026). Can be extended for up to 1 year (end of March 31, 2027).
• The applicant must be an organization or institution
• Projects that combine with other financial sources are also acceptable

Application Period

From November 1st, 2024 to January 10th (by 5pm JST), 2025

Selection Process

A few projects will be selected by members of the selection committee composed of oncology and cancer chemotherapy experts of the Kobayashi Foundation.

Grants

Total of 15,000,000 Japanese yen.
Up to 10,000,000 Japanese yen per application.
Amount of the Grant may be adjusted.
Few projects will be granted within the total amount.

Result Announcement

The result will be announced on the websites of the Kobayashi Foundation. Also, the results will be given to the applicants individually.

Grant conditions

  1. When any of the following parts of the application are to be changed, approval must be received in advance from the Foundation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors.
    1. The name of the application representative
    2. The purpose and research plan
    3. Discontinuation of the project
  2. The name of the organization receiving the grant and the activities shall be published on the Foundation’s website and the Foundation’s journal, “TENBO”
  3. Organizations are requested to publish the results of their activities in the Foundation’s journal, “TENBO”
  4. Grant must be used only for expenses directly related to the applied activities.
  5. Grant recipients will be asked to submit a written pledge with the following contents at the time of grant:
    1. The grant have to use only for the expenses directly related to the applied activities.
    2. Grant recipients will respond to the audits if KFCR deemed necessary.
    3. Grant recipients will return the grant if any illegality or misconduct of yourself or your activities, or violation or unfulfillment.
    4. Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research is not responsible for the results of any activities.

    Submission of the achievements and income and expenditure report

    1. Those who receive a grant are asked to submit an activities report to the Foundation’s office by May 31, 2026. If your project will run beyond April, 2026, please submit your interim activities report and activity plan for second-year by the end of March 2026 and submit your final activity report by the end of May 31, 2027. If the report is expected to be late, please submit a statement of reasons to the Foundation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors for approval.
    2. Those who receive a grant are asked to submit an income and expenditure report to the Foundation’s office by May 31, 2026. If your project will run beyond April 2026, please submit an interim income and expenditure report by the end of March, 2026 and submit a final income and expenditure report by May 31, 2027 to our organization.
    3. When publishing or making presentations related to this project in an academic journal or conference, recipients are asked to note that a subsidy was received from the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research and to submit a reprint in PDF format to the Foundation’s office (e-mail: info@kficc.or.jp).

    Other

    The applicant's personal information shall be used only within the scope required for executing the project subsidized by the Foundation.Any irregularities found will be dealt with strictly by the severity of the irregularity. The return of grant money may be demanded, and subsequent applications refused.Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research conduct an audit if deemed necessary. Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research is not responsible for the results of activities using the grant.
