Grant for Activities to Improve Cancer Treatment in Emerging Asian Countries
Guidelines for Applicants

Objective

In the emerging Asian countries, the number of doctors and medical professionals specializing in cancer treatment remains limited, as well as the access to anticancer drugs. However, those countries are expected to experience significant growth in both their overall and elderly populations in the coming years. As a result, there is an increasing demand for specialized cancer care and a pressing need to enhance the capabilities of doctors and medical professionals in this field.
Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research will provide grants to organizations, institute, hospital and facilities across Asian countries (including selected regions outside Asia) to improve the survival and outcomes of anticancer therapy. Additionally, the Foundation aims to foster collaborative frameworks between Japan and other Asian countries in cancer care, research, and patient support.

Summary of applications

Eligible applicants
Applications are open to nonprofit organizations and institutions engaged in activities that promote the dissemination of cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes in Asian countries.
Each organization or institution may submit multiple applications.
Priority will be given to projects conducted in the following countries:
Kingdom of Cambodia, Kingdom of Thailand, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Republic of Indonesia, Republic of the Philippines and Socialist Republic of Viet Nam Applications from other Asian countries and regions are also welcome.

Subject to activities
Proposed projects should contribute to the advancement and dissemination of cancer treatment, particularly anti-cancer drug therapies. Eligible activities include, but are not limited to:
• Expanding access to cancer care and anti-cancer drug therapy
• Developing frameworks for multi-national clinical trials
• Create guidelines
• Organize an international symposium related to the above
• Other
Multiple years of activities are also acceptable. Grant for multiple-year activities will be paid once in the first grant year.

Application conditions
• The project must be implemented during the 2026 fiscal year (ending March 31, 2027). An extension of up to one year (until March 31, 2028) may be granted.
• The applicant must be organizations or institutions
• Projects that receive funding from other financial sources are also eligible.

Application Period

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by our Selection Committee, which consists of experts in oncology and cancer chemotherapy from the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research. A limited number of projects will be selected.

Grants

Maximum grant amount: Up to ¥10,000,000 JPY per application.
The final grant amount may be adjusted.
A limited number of projects will be granted.

Announcement of Results

The result will be announced on the websites of the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research. Grant recipients will be notified individually.

Grant conditions

  1. Any changes to the following must be approved in advance by Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation:
    1. The name of the application representative
    2. The objectives or research plan
    3. Discontinuation of the project
  2. The name of the grant recipient organization and details of the funded activities will be published on the Foundation’s website and in its official journal, “TENBO”
  3. Grant recipients are requested to publish the outcomes of their activities in the Foundation’s official journal, “TENBO”
  4. Grant must be used exclusively for expenses directly related to the applied activities.
  5. Grant recipients must submit a written pledge with the following contents at the time of grant:
    1. The grant will be used solely for the expenses directly related to the applied activities.
    2. The recipient agrees to cooperate with audits if deemed necessary by the Foundation.
    3. The recipient agrees to return the grant in the event of any misconduct, legal violation, or failure to fulfill the project.
    4. Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research bears no responsibility for outcomes of the funded activities.

    Reporting Requirements

    1. A final activity report must be submitted by May 31, 2027. For projects continuing beyond April, 2027, an interim report and second-year activity plan must be submitted by March 31, 2027 and submit final activity report by May 31, 2028. If a delay is expected, a written explanation must be submitted to the Foundation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors for approval.
    2. A financial report must be submitted by May 31, 2027. For multi-year projects, an interim report is due by March 31, 2027, and a final report by May 31, 2028.
    3. When publishing or presenting related to the funded project, recipients must acknowledge support from the Kobayashi Foundation for Cancer Research and submit a PDF copy of the publication to the Foundation (e-mail: info@kficc.or.jp).

    Others

    1. Personal information provided in the application will be used solely for the purpose of administering the grant program.
    2. Any misconduct or irregularities will be dealt with strictly and may result in the return of grant funds and disqualification from future applications.
    3. The Foundation reserves the right to conduct audits if deemed necessary. The Foundation is not responsible for the outcomes of the funded activities.
